In France, like writers, screenwriters, composers and literary translators, audiovisual translators are authors. They earn author's rights for the use or diffusion of their work, whatever the medium, DVD, cinema or TV.

They are usually members of two authors society :

- The Sacem, for fictional programs

- The Scam, for documentaries
